My art director made these cool sparkles for our character, and when I was playing around with them, I realized I could use a silly technique to make cool color streaks.

Steps:
Copy the sparkles
Paste into new layer
Make sure layer is above
Set layer to screen
Use nudge tool with "Sample All Layers"
Drag over sparkles to create tail and brightening effect

Pretty cool for effects or forms for paintings.
